Cinderella

This website will be comparing various folklore stories inspired by Cinderella. The story of Cinderella has had thousands of retellings around the world throughout many centuries. I will compare various published stories of this tale, including the Greek tale of Rhodopis, the Chinese Yeh Shan, the European stories by both Charles Perrault and The Brothers Grimm, and lastly the Disney adaptation. Cinderella is more than just a name; it is a concept. Each story has its own twist to the tale as well as primary elements to her success. However, all these tales maintain the same concept of an oppressed girl rising above her social standing with beauty and kindness. The famous slipper has undergone many changes, from fur to gold to glass. As time advanced, so did Cinderella and what it meant to tell a love story.
